18th Anniversary Boat Trip

After a wonderful weekend away with my husband, to celebrate 18 years of marriage, I put together a Smilebox Photo album to post to Gratitude Wednesday, and Outdoor Wednesday.

We have owned our boat for a little over a year.  We tried to do this trip last year, but we discovered a leak in the hull, so we came home after overnighting in La Conner.

I am so grateful for my loving husband and his desire to spend the weekend with me.  I am grateful for all the time he spent, getting our boat ready for this awesome trip.  I am grateful to live in the most beautiful part of the world (I’m biased).  I am also grateful for my loving children, for managing all their activities while we were gone and having the house so clean when we returned.

This year’s trip, although almost the exact itinerary as last year, was so much better.  The boat is almost completely refurbished, by my husband.  We were able to take our time getting out the first day.  We are better boaters in general.  Mostly, though, Pete and I committed a good deal of our time together in prayer.   Seeing my husband’s commitment to Christ in our marriage calms my spirit and gives me joy.

Anniversary boat trip 023

The first day was slow and easy, and the weather was perfect.  This is a pirate-style sail boat we passed along the way.

I like the contrast of the clouds above this oil tanker at the oil refinery in Anacortes, Washington.

The Washington State ferry system is the largest system in the US.  We passed several ferries along our way to Friday Harbor, where the ferries service Lopez, Shaw, Orcas and San Juan Islands.  There are also a few routes to Victoria, BC.

By Saturday morning, a little fog had moved in.  Boating in the fog is not ideal but it wasn’t too thick and most of our journey was clear.  Seeing the ferry pop out of the fog in this photo is kind of a Northwesterner’s idea of a great photo.  You know you’re from Washington when you have too many photos of the ferry.

Couldn’t help myself- I loved the effect of the ferry against the boat in the foreground.  I love the balance in this photo.

Thanks for checking out my blog today.  I have thoroughly enjoyed the time off with my husband.  Now I’m looking forward to getting back into normal days, and to seeing what everyone else is posting this week. Beth.

Hi Beth,
It sounds like you had a wonderful time. Congratulations on your anniversary! My husband dreams of sailing some day. I told him I will meet him at his destination. I do not have my sea legs! I hope your hubby is grateful that you go out there in the deep blue with him!
Thanks for joining the party today.

Beth, thanks for the comment you left on SelfSagacity. It is so great to learn of other areas, as I don't think I can experience them all in this life.
Your post is so wonderful, very nice you had the chance finally to experience such a ride. I can't wait to go on our cruise...what cruise? Smiles.
