Date Morning Fridays

Date Morning Friday is the day my husband and I use to sneak away from the kids to reconnect as husband and wife. We started out with a simple stop at the local Starbuck's-- the one where you can get a breakfast sandwich, not the one that can't serve food similar to McDonald's because the building is leased from McDonald's, or some reason like that.  This was satisfying for a time but now we are looking for a great breakfast restaurant.

Maltby Cafe is the obvious choice but it is farther than we want to wander off on a regular basis. We definitely get there when we have more time.  We recently tried the restaurant, Kate’s Place.  It is near the Everett High School campus, on Colby.  It’s OK; not fantastic.  The service was decent.  I wasn’t excited by the coffee, and that really matters.  Oh, the reviews were big on the bacon and definitely, the bacon was very good.  Kate’s Place was pretty busy after about 10am and they see a lot of regulars.

Another local place is Patty’s Eggnest.  This is a chain of seemingly breakfast hot-spots.  There are two locations near us.  The first, on Evergreen, is terrible.  It’s the Old Chuck Wagon Inn and has the feel of an old, stale bar.  The other location is Mukilteo.  This location is decent, and clean.  The food is average, but the coffee is typical and not interesting at all.  Surprisingly, there is no website for this chain which I find kind of annoying and speaks to the quality of this establishment.

Sometimes we just stay home.  The key to a good stay-at-home date is to banish the kids to the downstairs.  They don’t really mind, and quite frequently are not even out of bed.  Whatever we can do to be together, as one.

A bonus to breakfast dates is the cost factor.  The older we get, the less eager, and less capable, we are of spending extra cash on eating out.  Another great thing is being able to eat all the wonderful, fun, high-calorie foods because we still have the whole day to work it off!
